Shomu (Samiran) Banerjee is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA. He attended the University of Delhi where he obtained his BA (Hons.) from Shri Ram College of Commerce and MA from the Delhi School of Economics. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota where he studied under Leonid Hurwicz, a 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize recipient.

Born in London, he grew up in Pakistan, Madagascar, and Turkey, in addition to India. He speaks five languages (English, Hindi, Bangla, Turkish, and French) and is struggling to learn Korean. He practices the Japanese martial art, Aikido, in which he holds a rank of nidan (second degree black belt).
